The world spins again

All that has happened in the US and around the world this last week in protest at the killing of George Floyd has highlighted two things:

The need to wake up and to learn, and the need to take action and bear witness.
I hope this week you’ll find something here to inspire and motivate you.

Mae Jemison on belonging:

Mae Jemison - Wikipedia

"Once I got into space, I was feeling very comfortable in the universe.

I felt like I had a right to be anywhere in this universe, that I belonged here as much as any speck of stardust, any comet, any planet."

Nikita Gill:   Ancestors

Your ancestors did not survive
everything that nearly ended them
for you to shrink yourself
to make someone else comfortable.

This is your war cry, be loud,
be everything and make them proud.

Shares five actions for meaningful impact. From Mary Portas.

  • “Even if the answer is: ‘We don’t know what to do, but we’re working on it and will come back with a firm commitment.’ Saying something is the first step. Now do something.”
  • “Have your chief exec do interviews about this topic. Don’t let this die in the dark. Force it into the light. Your entire workforce is suffering. If you’re a leader worth your pay, you will act.”
  • “Stop asking black people who are fighting for their own lives to tell you what you should do about it. You make the big bucks. Not us.”
  • “To everyone still moving forward with personalised email campaigns or promoted Twitter ads about unrelated products, you should all go back to school to learn how to properly be a marketer.”
  • “Blacks are not dumb enough to ignore when you deem things a tragedy and when you do not. And for all the messaging I’ve seen [from] brands in ’solidarity’, they have been spread through organic sharing... why are you all so afraid to put media budget behind those messages if you do, in fact, stand with us?”
